Sometimes, when the spring sun first shines on the heart of the forest, a phenomenon of pure magic occurs. Tiny motes of sunlight filtering through the leaves hover in the air, growing brighter and brighter until they condense into a physical form.
At first, these magical creatures are almost invisible, especially in the brighter light of the sun. In the moonlight, the silvery glow reflects off their tiny bodies, revealing them as they flit through the deep green shadows of the forest.
Their favourite thing to do is explore the joys of their new world. Just think about it - they are made from the magic of the forest, they know every tree, from the deepest roots to the budding flowers, but they've never even touched a single leaf.
Maybe that's why so many of them spend their days trying to find the most beautiful leaf in the forest. They roam all over the forest floor and climb into the highest branches bursting with luminous green. Of course, they never manage to decide which leaf is the prettiest. It wouldn't be fair.
They grow stronger every day, drawing power from the life of the forest. The sun warms their faces, the trees shelter them from the rain. In time, they might take on other roles, but for now they're happy to enjoy their home.
